Posted by u/Mysterious-Kick-8076 21 hours ago I got demoted at work, lol. L I'm a manager at a store that I've been working at for ten years and I got demoted back down to sales associate because another one of our stores at a different location is closing and they wanted to give my position to one of the managers from that store (there's only one of our positions available at my store location) and they basically told me I need to move down to make room for her to come to our location because t

Edit to add some clarification on a few things because I didn't realize this post was going to get as much attention as it did when I quickly typed out my original post basically just to vent a little. I haven't been a manager the full ten years I've only been a manager for a little over a year. There's only one position at my store for my title, so both of us can't be in this position at the same time. To be clear, they're not demoting me for any performance issues or because I'm not doing my j

They told me it will be a pay cut and I said I'm not willing to accept one, but they told me that's not an option. They also told me it'll ultimately equate to less than a dollar after my merit increase this year so they're justifying it with that, so I'm counter-arguing with that I should just be able to keep the extra few cents then, but they're saying it's not possible. I haven't signed anything, though. Yes, I can find (and am actively searching for) a new job, but I also live in a fairly sm

They also told me she would still have to apply for the position and wouldn't just automatically transfer over and this whole process would still take a few weeks to be in effect, but that was a lie because I came into work yesterday and all my manager shifts next week have already been changed, my admin logins weren't working anymore, my name was literally whited out the manager schedule with her name written over it, and my name is already added with all the sales associates and she'll be here

QuietudeOfHeart 21 hr. ago The other manager did such a good job at their branch that they had to shut it down. Makes sense to me. 5.5k Reply Share Mysterious-Kick-8076 OP 20 hr. ago Right? They're closing down because their location got NO business. And our store is one of the highest-volume/busiest in the entire region. They don't even want to see if she'll be able to manage it. It would make more sense to transfer her over as the associate and see if she can even handle it at all, but no, the

Tharatan 21 hr. ago So your response was "Sure, I'll step into the job duties of an associate, so long as my current pay, schedule and benefits don't change" while laughing your way into a lower-stress role, right? Reply Share 1.6k Selene716 12 hr. ago I was demoted at my first job back in the early 2000s. I didn't lose my pay rate but they changed my schedule. I was working 8-5 M-F but after the demotion they made me work nights and weekends. This was in Connecticut. Reply Share 152

Cool Cheetah658 16 hr. ago File for unemployment now, even if you still work there. You were constructively dismissed from the managerial role you've held for a long time and received a demotion and pay cut. That is textbook constructive dismissal. That should cover some of your losses. Also, if they retaliate for you filing, keep records, that's another win for you. Also, even if you still work there, don't train your replacement, don't help them, do your job description, and get out ASAP witho

SE Mysterious-Kick-8076 OP 17 hr. ago Also, yes, I'm getting a pay cut. I told them I refuse a pay cut and that being the most tenured employee and even as a sales associate I would still have the skills, knowledge, and experience of a manager that'll still be useful to them I deserve to keep my pay they told me that's not an option.
